Salford Triathlon

This weekend sees Salford Quays and Media City inundated with triathletes of all abilities swimming, biking and running around the fast, flat course. There are a variety of distances, from sprint (750 metres swim, 20 km bike and 5 km run) standard (1.5 km swim, 40 km bike and 10 km run) including the standard team relay option, giving everybody a chance to take part. Last year saw treacherous weather with heavy rain and strong winds making the course, with its twists and turns through Trafford Park, alongside the new set of Coronation Street, past the Imperial War Museum, a tricky one to navigate. This is a fantastic closed road event, with lots of local crowd support.

Castle Howard Triathlon

Further afield is the Castle series Castle Howard triathlon, set in the beautiful (but challenging when in the saddle) Howardian Hills, in North Yorkshire. Again, there are many different races to choose from, right up to half ironman distance (1.9 km swim, 90 km bike and a half marathon to finish), aptly names The Gauntlet. The Castle series, which holds triathlons at Castles in England, Ireland and France is very family orientated and has children’s races as well so that everyone can take part.

We would like to wish all those taking part the very best of luck.
