It’s now just less than 48 hours until the ‘Aldi Manchester Half Marathon’ with runners setting off from 9am Sunday 16th October. Due to being one of the flattest race courses around (with only 41m of elevation) it is expected that some of our runners at G4 set some fast paced PB’s.
The staff here at G4 Physio & Fitness have worked together to help a number of our clients from the Didsbury and Greater Manchester area with their preparations for the upcoming event.
Our Personal Training service has allowed athletes to refine their fitness and strength levels for the challenge ahead whilst achieving their training goals. The Physiotherapy, Sports Rehabilitation and Sports & Deep Tissue Massage teams have all contributed to keeping our runner’s injury free and in tip top shape throughout their training and for the 13.1 mile race itself.
A number of common running injuries we see in the clinic that our team are able to promptly diagnose and treat:
1. Shin pain (front of the lower leg)
2. Calf tightness and pain (including the Achilles tendon)
3. Lateral knee pain, by the ITB (outside the knee)
4. Pain behind or below the knee cap
5. Ankle sprains
6. Pain under the arch of the foot
7. Pulled/strained muscles in the lower limb
And let’s not forget our fantastic Sports Podiatrist Paul, who our staff work alongside of to reduce and prevent injury in clients who may experience problems relating to lower limb biomechanics. These can be addressed using a number of techniques including gait analysis, corrective orthotics and strengthening and mobility programmes.
If you have any injury concerns, would like advice for further events or post-race recommendations, or even a well deserved sports massage to help those hard worked legs recover, please contact the clinic on 0161 445 5133 or email admin@g4physio.co.uk.
Good luck to all!
