Podiatry is the modern term for ‘Chiropody’. Our podiatrists at G4 are experts in treating all conditions affecting the lower limb and foot and we can treat everyone from children to the elderly, all levels of athletes and to those who struggle looking after and physically checking their own feet.
During your appointment, the podiatrist will carry out a thorough examination of your feet to assess the circulation, nerves and range of motion in the joints. A detailed subjective history will be taken to recognise your needs and we will diagnose any problems and come up with an effective treatment strategy to help cure and relieve your symptoms.
The common problems and symptoms we treat in General Podiatry are:
- Dermatological problems such as athlete's foot
- Thickened toenails
- In-growing toenails
- Fungal nails
- Nail cutting
- Cracked heels
- Hammer toes
- Morton’s neuroma
- Blisters and other wounds on the foot
- Diabetic and Rheumatic feet
All new clients require an initial 30 minute appointment whereby our podiatry team will conduct an assessment and perform relevant treatment as required. Follow up appointments may be recommended to help maintain healthy feet and alleviate any symptoms. Such sessions may be 15 or 30 minutes depending on the condition and treatment required.
All treatments at G4 are based on the latest scientific evidence and our clinicians are qualified to administer local anaesthetics and conduct minor surgery for the treatment of ingrowing toenails and verruca to ease the pain and provide symptomatic relief.
‘In-growing toenails’ can be treated by a simple procedure under local anaesthetic to allow removal of the irritable nail. For more extensive cases, nail surgery can be performed. Such treatment may entail single nail surgery (60 minutes) or double nail surgery (90 minutes). Each treatment is followed up with up to three dressing appointments lasting 15 minutes for each.
‘Verrucas’ are treated at the clinic using either Salacylic Acid (15 minute sessions) or SWIFT Microwave Therapy (x3, 30 minute sessions). SWIFT is the more expensive form of treatment but it is known to be the most affective verrucae removal treatment available in the UK carrying a success rate of over 77%.
When required, we can also refer you to our specialist in-house Sports Podiatrist if we believe you would benefit from custom made orthotic devices to alleviate your pain.
