What’s on this Weekend: 9 August 2015 Go off-road!

Cyclocross2trail run

The Mary Towneley Loop Cyclocross takes place bright and early on Sunday morning at the Watergrove Reservoir in Wardle. This is a unique event as it takes places over lots of different terrain from cobbles, setts, packhorse tracks and wild open moorland, following a 75 km bridleway loop. The Mary Towneley Loop is a section of the Pennine Bridleway National Trail for horse riders, mountain bikers and walkers. It follows bridleways and byways and short sections of public road. It is named after Lady Mary Towneley who campaigned  to open up the countryside for recreational use. Cyclists will be on cyclocross or mountain bikes and two feet as they have to be prepared to carry them over short sections of the route!

For those trail runners looking for a challenge, there is a trail marathon and half marathon taking place in Ulverston by the Lake District. The route of the Hoad Hill marathon and half marathon follows a mixture of trail, coastal path, canal towpath and quiet country lanes. The pain of the ascents and descents will be alleviated by the stunning views of the beautiful South Lakes and Morecambe Bay. The routes start and finish at Ford Park, Ulverston and there is a big climb up to the iconic Sir John Barrow monument on top of Hoad Hill.

We would like to wish all those taking part the very best of luck.
